The GROW-FINE Caribbean-2 (GFC-2) Hindcast is Oceanweather's comprehensive metocean study of the
Caribbean Sea. The GFC-2 project applies the hindcast methodology developed at Oceanweather for the specification
of wind, wave, current and surge fields in historical time periods. The basic hindcast approach involves the development of accurate wind
fields from historical data and application of proven models.
The hindcast is a triple-nested wave model starting with the GROW hindcast database (basin scale).
Basin spectra were archived along a model boundary of an intermediate 28 km mesh at the model timestep. This intermediate mesh was run
to archive boundary spectra for the 5.6 km wave model fine grid for both the continuous and tropical hindcasts. Archived time step is 1-hour for the continuous hindcast
and 15-minute for the tropical hindcast for both the wind and wave fields as well as wave spectra at select locations.
The products of GFC-2 include the actual
simulated hindcast time series from all models (continuous/tropical), wave spectra if available, and statistics.
They can be purchased together or separately.
